These pictures were taken further into the arb, away from a lot of the people. I chose to take these photos because it is showing the beginning of fall, in the first one the leaves are starting the change color, and in the second there are a lot of colorful leaves on the ground. The pictures were hard to take because of hikers, so I had to reshoot a couple of times. These pictures are conveying the change of the season, and show the in between months. It also shows the unusual weather patterns of this year, as usually the leaves have changed color by now, but yet it is still warm outside. These pictures remind people of the colder seasons, but also show that these colder months can be colorful and exciting also.
These photos were also shot at the arb. This tree was very large, and I wanted to show its size, as well as the cool detail in the bark. The first picture shows the size of the tree, as my camera is at an angle and pointing up to emphasize the size of it. The sky was also very pretty, and in photoshop I was able to make it almost purple, against the green leaves I think it creates a really nice effect. The second picture shows the detailing, and is put on a third to coincide with the rule of thirds. The trees behind it make the trunk stand out, as it is a nice green and yellow background. The texture added in photoshop emphasizes the texture of the tree trunk. In these photos, I am trying to convey the beauty of nature, as this very old tree is still standing tall and strong.
This is my favorite photo. These photos are of a little waterfall/stream at independence lake. In this photo I am trying to convey calmness, as the stream and the colors are very calming to look at. I chose to take these photos because the area they are taken in is very interesting, and has a lot of different textures and nice colors. The grass that is closer to the camera act as leading lines to the lake in the background, which made it hard to take the photo, getting the right parts in focus, and making sure nothing was blurry because of the wind. I spent a lot of time at independence lake this summer, and my family used to go to independence lake when I was younger, so it is a special place to me. Although it was hard to take the photos, the outcome is very nice. I especially like how the oil painting one turned out. I think it turned out the best, as it actually looks like an oil painting, and the colors are really nice.
These pictures were taken in the same place as the last, but close up on a leaf, with the overhang blurred. This photo shows the imperfections in nature, but also the amazing things about nature, as you are able to see the detailing in the tree, and the cool shape of the branch in the background. In this picture I am trying to convey intrigue, as the viewer wants to look harder at the simplicity of the image. These photos were hard to take because of the wind, and also because I had to get very close to the water without slipping in. These photos were successful after a couple of shots, and the colors really made the photo worth taking. The filtered photo makes the water appear pink with blue shadows, which I think makes the photo even cooler.
These last photos were also taken at independence lake. They are of a smaller pond opposite the lake, where people sit and fish. The first image is very busy, yet the unity of green and blue makes the image come together, and creates an interesting view. I am trying to convey the beauty and randomness of nature in these, showing that nature is not clean cut and perfect, but is still beautiful. These photos were hard to take as I had the sun coming in very harshly, and I had to stand on a bench to take them. The reflection on the water makes the images very interesting. In the second image, you can see the roots under water, which adds depth to the image and shows there is more than meets the eye.
